Описание: Nyero rock paintings date from before 1250 CE. They were first documented in 1913, and are the most important and well documented rock art sites in Uganda. I visit them with Johanna & Kjel. I then switch to Lake Bunyonyi in the south to explore Punishment Island (Akampene) with Cristina. A place where unwed pregnant girls were abandoned to suffer a shameful death.

We start this cultural adventure by visiting the Nyero rock paintings.

There are 6 sites in all.
Site 1 consists of a floral motif, 6 sets of concentric circles & an acacia pod.
Site 2 is the largest with over 40 images dominated by concentric circles.
Site 3 contains an image with concentric circles and radiating squiggles.
This painting is depicted on the Ugandan 1000-shilling note.
Yeah.
So there are 3 more?
The other 3 sites are small and faint so we skipped them for something more visual.

Yes, where does the trail end?
At a dirt road.
Our next destination is Lake Bunyonyi.
Bunyonyi means “Place of many little birds.”
And some big ones.
We used a motorboat to stay on Itambira Island.
On my last visit only dugout canoes plied the lake.
At the Paradise Resort we had a number of sleeping options.
There's no door.
Laughter.
I guess the mosquito net is your barrier to nature.

They really believe in open air camping.
