With the retirement of the Caviar brand after 2012, Western Digital would continue to provide OEMs with surprisingly well made desktop hard drives in the light of Seagate's poorly made Grenadas and Toshiba's DT01ACAs which had surprising failure rates for being a Hitachi derivative. To follow up their WD5000AAKX flagships, Western Digital introduced the WD5000AZLX and WD10EZEX. The latter drive is the subject of this video, specifically a TresXLB variant of it.
The Blues have always been WD's mainline hard drives, even if some current models have fallen to the low of using SMR. This drive is also an early TresXLB, with later models using a simpler spindle sound that is used by almost every WD Blue drive today. OEMs like Dell and HP were more than happy to use the WD10EZEX in their systems, proving it was more reliable than the ST1000DM003 next door (not made any better by earlier Grenadas' failures). The WD10EZEX even found a home with consumers, with many reports of solid drive reliability, even more so than what Seagate could attempt to counter with. Some were used as boot drives, others as secondary storage in the light of SSDs becoming more easily obtainable, but however you look at it these drives will always be known for being very nice consumer-grade options.
