Hand Embroidery 🪡 Recreate Masterpiece, Girl with a Pearl Earring

For this video, I wanted to challenge myself with a detailed portrait, so I picked this master pieces, which is one of my favorite paintings— Girl with a Pearl Earring, and try to make it in hand embroidery.
In this video I showed my working progress from start to finished, along with some subtitle explain what I’m doing.
The most difficult part for this piece is to try to imitate the effect of an oil painting, especially on the face. I think I spent more time staring at it thinking what to do than embroidering. I used a lot of similar colors and needle painting to blend all the colors together. I didn’t regratte to embroider on a white fabric, even though I had to embroider the whole background in black, so the whole piece looks more complete.
It’s challenging but really fun.
