This monster hit from 1982 was written by someone whose only knowledge of Africa was from TV and books. So here we present our version of it along with a breathtaking palette of images taken over the years by Gwen. They by themselves are an enthralling spectacle even in the absence of sound!

For this number I brought in an old friend (but new to musings) the brilliant drummer Javier Jarvis. I always remember when the great Boogsie Sharp did an Antiguan performance with him he playfully threatened to steal him and carry him back to Trinidad with him!
Eh eh, no sar! And you will get an idea why when he takes a break in the latter part of the song.

Javier’s driving rhythms and sensitive interpretations are inspiring and Vivi’s energy and passion are contagious. We all had a crazy time, even the usually more controlled Gwen, who enthusiastically collaborated with me in editing the pictures. A fun song for all to enjoy.
