"Keep the hips low" is repeated so often by athletic coaches that it's almost cliché.
But why is it important?
Hips are the area of the body's center of mass, stated otherwise the center of power.
The ability to lower the hips closer to the ground gives one more stability.
The key for athletics however is to blend stability with mobility.
Does no good to get down if you can't move once you get there.
So the real skill is in being able to move easily and with control in the deep positions.
This gives mechanical advantage to any type of combat sport or otherwise hand to hand engagement.
The smaller wrestler can throw the larger wrestler if he can wedge his center of mass under the opponent.
