This seminar provides an introduction to Item Response Theory (IRT), a set of psychometric models and techniques for the design, analysis, and scoring of tests, questionnaires, and other instruments for measuring abilities, attitudes, and other variables. Best known for their application in large-scale achievement testing, IRT methods possess distinctive and often overlooked advantages for enhancing measurement across a wide spectrum of disciplines. This course will emphasize conceptual understanding and application. Special attention will be paid to figures, the “visual language” of IRT. We'll use the mirt package in R and MPlus to illustrate how IRT models can be specified and interpreted. Ideal for researchers in psychology, education, medicine, business, and beyond, this course is designed to enhance your measurement and analysis skills.
