Over 300 households in Sioma District of Western Province have been submerged, while more than 800 hectares of maize have been damaged due to flash floods.
Sioma District Acting Agriculture Coordinator Chipobe Hangomba confirmed the development during a monitoring exercise conducted with the Provincial Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit.
Reports of elephants encroaching on farmers’ fields have also been recorded, further worsening the situation for affected communities.
The unfolding crisis has raised serious concerns over food security and livelihoods in Sioma District, as families face the dual threat of flood damage and wildlife intrusion.
