Government says it is rehabilitating more than 200 critical bridges across the country.
This is out of the 537 bridges currently in a deplorable state and requiring urgent attention.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Norman Chipakupaku said the bridges earmarked for rehabilitation are located along key economic roads.
Mr. Chipakupaku was speaking during his recent visit to Chilubi Islands in Northern Province to assess the flood situation.
He explained that some bridges in need of repair are in major rural road networks, noting that while some have deteriorated due to age, others have been vandalised.
Mr. Chipakupaku has since urged District Commissioners to remain alert and monitor damaged bridges in their respective areas.
