Anatomy & Function of the Quadratus Lumborum (QL) Muscle

John Gibbons is a sports Osteopath and a lecturer for the 'Bodymaster Method ®' and in this video he is discussing the origin, insertion and action of the Quadratus Lumborum Muscle also called the QL. This muscle attaches from the iliac crest, iliolumbar ligament and travels to the 12th rib and the transverse processes of the lumbar spine and bilaterally will extend the lumbar spine and unilaterally side bend. The QL is also involved with expiration due to the attachment of the 12th rib. This muscle works in harmony with the psoas major muscle because of its attachment to the diaphragm and lumbar spine.
