Parts of the town of Belchite are still preserved in the ruined state they had after the battles that took place there in 1937 during the spanish civil war. Because the preservation effort was not taken seriously for a long time, only few of the original ruins remain. Many were also damaged during the production of various movies that used the town's ruins as a set.
