BR Class 7MT 4-6-2 no.70000 'Britannia' hauled the London Victoria - Bristol TM - London Victoria tour the 'VSOE' (Venice Simplon Orient Express), headcodes 1Z97 & 1Z98. She was covering for 60163 'Tornado' who had failed her fitness to run exam the previous day with a defective pipe. This turned out to be a historic run as she would become the first 'Britannia' Class locomotive to haul the VSOE in preservation and she certainly put on a good show. For the outward run I went to Freshford were we see her galloping along the Limpley Stoke Valley, giving a lovely whistle for those on the station. Afterwards I went to Bristol where we see her departing with the ECS move, slipping just as a Class 158 unit gets in the way, as does a Class 143. Later on we see a XC HST service to Glasgow departing whilst a FGW HST service to London Paddington departs. The Brit, now turned is then seen running into the middle road of Platform 3 light engine then heading over to the East Depot. For the return run I went to Sydney Gardens in Bath, including a shot of the canal. 'Britannia' can be heard departing Bath Spa Station then appears in a cloud of smoke and steam, safety valves lifted and whistling for the onlookers she blasts her way through on her way back to London.
