The horizon was gone, swallowed by a grey that moved like breath.
I thought the end would come loud, thunder, screams, fire.
But it came softly, like a curtain closing.

The Cataclysm changed everything.
It wasn’t just the weather. It was the order of things.
Gravity feels tired now. Light doesn’t behave the same.
My reflection moves a heartbeat too late.

Sometimes I wonder if I died and the world didn’t notice.

The cold grows inside me.
Not as pain, but as memory, like my blood remembers how to freeze.
I found an old radio in what used to be a rescue station.
The walls were covered in frost, but the dials still moved.

I turned the handle. Static filled the room, a sea of white noise.
And then, beneath it, a sound.
A low hum, steady and endless.

It wasn’t a signal. It was a heartbeat.
Not mine. Not human.
It vibrated through the floor, through the air, through me.

The last frequency.

I think it’s what’s keeping me alive. Or maybe it’s learning how to.

I keep walking north.
Or what used to be north.
Compass needles drift like they’ve forgotten direction.
The landscape moves in slow pulses, valleys breathing, mountains twitching under the ice.

I see shapes sometimes.
They stand in the white, motionless, patient.
When I blink, they’re closer.

I told myself they were mirages until I saw one leave footprints.
The prints smoked for a moment before freezing solid.

Whatever came down with the fire isn’t gone.
It’s here. It’s watching.
And I think it knows what I am.

I talk to myself so I don’t vanish.
My voice breaks the air, and the air closes again, pretending I was never here.

I can feel the vibration under my skin now.
It hums in my teeth, in my bones.
The closer I get to the crash site, the louder it becomes,
not sound, but awareness.

I dream of it sometimes:
a black shape moving inside light.
A thought with weight.

I don’t think it came to destroy us.
I think it came to finish us,
to use what was left and start again.

The radio tone has changed.
It’s not a hum anymore.
It’s whispering.
I can’t understand the words, but I recognize the rhythm, it’s a heartbeat again.

Only now, it matches mine.

The air outside moves like it’s breathing with me.
I can’t tell where my pulse ends and the world begins.

Maybe survival was never the point.
Maybe this is what comes next,
life after life.

The frequency doesn’t fade anymore.

It waits..
