Can you imagine access to inspect, maintain, renew or enhance our railway that is safer and more productive?

In the 'Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and Borders' route, we have gone beyond imagination and we now have a plan to deliver just this - Safer and more productive possessions that enable us to keep our railway 🚂 safer, and deliver our essential work more productively without impacting our customers.

We have removed 'human lookouts' (warning methods) ❌ across the route, and we will now ramp down our use of 'Victorian Fog 🌫️ Signals' (aka Detonators 💥 ).

In doing so, we will reduce the risk of operational irregularities, enable our people to be safer, use more technology and provide safer and faster access to the railway for our work deliverers.

Last week, I spent time 'on nights' with our possession delivery teams across the route. We discussed the merits of our evolutionary plan for safer and faster possessions and worksites. And we also took the opportunity to have Safety Conversations and deliver site-based assurance checks on our possession support staff and protection arrangements.

As well as what I mention here and in this short blog, we have commenced our rollout of Remote Disconnection Devices (400 in number) across the route to additionally protect planned line blockages. 'Simple' line blockages also being ramped down.

A genuine culture change underway. Feedback and challenge on all this more than welcomed.
