Across the Wales and Borders routes, we have 10's of thousands of railway assets, track, signalling, power, drainage, level crossings, heating systems, cooling systems, structures, earthworks and much more besides. And, over the last 10 years, we have progressively been able to remotely monitor (and predict) the behaviour of these assets. Even now, this week, we are connecting more sensors to more things and using modern communication systems to remotely check the heath of assets across our 1000+ miles of railway on the route.
Today, I paid a visit to our Intelligent Infrastructure lead, Nicola at our monitoring nerve centre in Cardiff.
And we signed off the visit today with a quick blog to tell the story.....
Our ecosystem of monitoring is exponentially growing, with trainborne systems and the data capture now being analysed with important insights available to the various engineers across the route.
Safer, more efficient and the ability to drive more reliability into our asset base.
