I escaped mud season in the mountains to take a backcountry navigation course and go backpacking with a long time friend in Canyonlands National Park. For my course, I was lucky to do the Chesler Par Loop, and for fun, I was lucky to string together several trails in the backcountry of the Needles District. Water in the desert is scarce (read nonexistent on this trip), which made for a challenge, but the beauty of the Needles made it more than worthwhile.
