As Georgia Oakley’s stunning directorial debut BLUE JEAN opens in select US theaters from Friday June 9th, the filmmaker and lead actress Rosy McEwen speak with The Queer Review's editor about the BAFTA-nominated film, which won the Venice Film Festival’s People’s Choice Award and 4 British Independent Film Awards.
Blue Jean is set in England in 1988 as Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government is about to pass a law stigmatizing gays and lesbians, forcing Jean (Rosy McEwen, in a powerhouse performance), a gym teacher, to live a double life. As pressure mounts from all sides, the arrival of a new student catalyzes a crisis that will challenge Jean to her core.
Blue Jeans opens at IFC Center and Film at Lincoln Center in New York on Friday, June 9th, 2023 from. Magnolia Pictures, followed by Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Portland on Friday, June 16th.
