I went hunting for the right piece of Walnut.
Dug through my stack… three massive chunks from the root and trunk were waiting.
Picked the one with the most potential and moved it straight to the bench.
First cut—clean.
Separated the workpiece… but the moment I inspected it, the cracks showed up.
Standard risk with raw, heavy Walnut.
So I pivoted.
Stripped the bark, made a second, stronger cut, and locked in a better blank.
From there it was pure focus.
Mounted the piece, turned it slow, rotated it again and again, shaping the interior until the curve finally felt right.
The inside is done. Solid. Cohesive. Ready.
But the exterior?
That’s still an open chapter.
Texture? Carving? Burning? Inlay?
