I bought an Atari 1040ST from eBay (the place where I buy the things I later regret™). In true "Wheel of Regrets™" fashion, I tried powering it up without inspecting it, to which it made a blaugh noise and started reeking of fish. A post-mortem analysis shows electrolyte on the board and a blown fuse.
Even after a recap and a swap-out of several key components, the original power supply still has a fault. It seems as if it is going into either short-circuit or over voltage protection mode, as it is making a repeating electrical clicking noise. I'm going to declare the power supply as irreparable (at least until I feel like throwing all the parts still in production at it). Therefore, I have ordered a new power supply for my 1040ST.
Which power supply did I pick? Will it be easy to install in the 1040ST? And will I need to repair anything else? You'll have to watch to find out!
