ගැටබරුව රජ මහා විහාරය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මාතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ කොටපොල ප්‍රදේශයට ආසන්නව පිහිටි පුරාණ බෞද්ධ විහාරයකි. අනුරාධපුර යුගයට සම්බන්ධ ඉතිහාසයක් ඇති මෙම විහාරය වලගම්බා රජතුමාගේ සමයේ භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා වාසය සඳහා භාවිතා කළ ගල් කුහරයක් මූලික කරගෙන ආරම්භ වූ බවට විශ්වාස කෙරේ.
මෙහි විශේෂ ලක්ෂණය වන්නේ ගල් ලෙනක් තුළ පිහිටි ප්‍රධාන බුදු මන්දිරයයි. එහි බුදු ප්‍රතිමාවක් සහ අග්‍ර ශ්‍රාවකයන් වූ සාරිපුත්ත හා මහා මොග්ගල්ලාන මහරහතන් වහන්සේලාගේ ප්‍රතිමාවන්ද දැකිය හැක. මෙම ලෙන් විහාර සැලැස්ම ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පුරාණ ලෙන් විහාර සම්ප්‍රදායට බොහෝ සෙයින් සමාන බවට සාක්ෂි ඇත.
විහාර පරිශ්‍රයේ දේවාල කිහිපයක්ද පවතින අතර ඒ අතරින් ගැටබරුව විහාරය ප්‍රසිද්ධ වන්නේ රජ්ජුරු බණ්ඩාර දෙවියන් සඳහාය. රජ්ජුරු බණ්ඩාර දෙවියන් කෙරෙහි බැතිමතුන්ගේ විශාල විශ්වාසයක් පවතින අතර වගා සාර්ථක වීම, රෝග සුව වීම සහ දරුවන් ලබා ගැනීම වැනි බලාපොරොත්තු සඳහා බොහෝ දෙනා මෙහි පැමිණ පුද පූජා පවත්වති.
බෞද්ධ හා දේවාල චාරිත්‍ර එකට එක් කරමින් වාර්ෂිකව පැවැත්වෙන ඇසළ පෙරහැර දේශීය මෙන්ම විදේශීය ජනතාවගේද විශාල ආකර්ෂණයක් දිනා ගනී. අවස්ථාවක් ලැබුණු විට මෙම පූජනීය ස්ථානයට පැමිණ ගැටබරුව රජ මහා විහාරයේ ශ්‍රී විභූතිය නැරඹීමට ඔබටත් ආරාධනා කරමු. 🙏

Gatabaruwa Raja Maha Vihara
Gatabaruwa Raja Maha Vihara is an ancient Buddhist temple located in the Kotapola area of Matara District, Sri Lanka. The temple has a history connected to the Anuradhapura period and is believed to have been established based on a rock cave that was used by monks for residence during the reign of King Valagamba.
The main feature of this temple is the primary Buddha shrine located inside a rock cave. Inside, a Buddha statue and statues of the chief disciples of the Buddha, Sariputta and Moggallana Maha Rahath Thero can be seen. This cave temple layout strongly resembles the ancient cave temple tradition of Sri Lanka.
There are several devalayas (shrines for deities) within the temple premises. Among them, the temple is especially famous for Rajjuru Bandara Deiyo. Devotees have great faith in this deity and visit the temple to make offerings and vows for wishes such as successful harvests, healing from illnesses, and blessings for children.
The annual Esala Perahera, which combines Buddhist and devalaya traditions, attracts both local and foreign visitors in large numbers.
