Mr. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has recently traveled to Uganda, which is currently receiving refugees from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and most recently, Sudan.
With over 400,000 refugees arriving since 2022, Uganda’s open-door policy is continuing to provide a safe haven amidst decreasing humanitarian funding.
During his visit to Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement in Kamwenge District, Mr. Grandi commended Uganda’s flexible asylum approach and urged for increased support to sustain refugee livelihoods. Uganda remains a leader in refugee protection.
