But where is that, exactly?
Some might say our hearts are wherever we put our time, energy, and money. Others might counter that it's a place where we find peace, love, companionship and community. I think both are correct. Unfortunately, where we might put our time, money, and energy doesn't necessarily lead to peace, love, and community.
Home isn't just a physical place built with beams where we lay our heads at night. Perhaps more importantly, it's also 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 we spend our time and energy, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 we spend it, and 𝐰𝐡𝐨 we spend it with. Those factors have the greatest overall impact on the beating organ at the center of our chest, affecting our generational mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health and well-being.
Truly, our hearts are an amazing feat of construction. Pulsing to a precisely timed sequence of electrical signals that coordinate our heartbeat, this "internal wiring" ensures that the heart's chambers contract in the correct order to pump blood efficiently throughout our body, beating over 100,000 times and pumping roughly 2,000 gallons of blood daily.
💞Yet we leave the care of something so precious up to chance and vulnerable.
💔We neglect basic wellness practices - walking or other forms of exercise, sleep, whole food nutrition, and in-person social connection - short-changing our physical, life-giving energy for heart-stressing, anger-inducing, social media scrolling, substance misuse, and other lifestyle behaviors that keep us chained to anger, unhealthy attitudes, and addiction. Splintering the very foundation we are tasked to build, bolster, and hold sacred - our hearts and our homes.
💓Our heart is a muscle. Like any other muscle in our body, it needs to be worked in order to get stronger. But, unlike other muscles that we can physically over-train and overuse, what stresses and breaks our hearts the most is usually the emotional toll of life. Not necessarily the physical one. Anger, frustration, stress, depression, grief, and fatigue are significant contributors to heart disease.
🏡Home is where the heart is, but our hearts are not always where and with whom we spend our days.

✨What we feed our mind controls our emotions. The outflow of that either bolsters or burdens our relationships, interactions, mental health, and physical well-being.
✨How we spend our time, what we eat, our sleep habits, and exercise can either sustain a healthy homeostasis and heart rhythm or undermine it.
✨Small changes that, with consistency and a thrifting, iterative mindset, have a massive impact on our generational personal and collective well-being.
