A Heartfelt Celebration in the Hunter Valley

Whitney and Jarrod’s wedding was a true celebration of love, intimacy and resilience in the face of the Australian summer heat. Their micro wedding took place at Leaves and Fishes in Lovedale, right in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region.

It was a small and personal affair with close family and a couple of friends, which made the day feel warm, genuine and filled with connection.

Overwater Cabins and Weekend Retreat

The couple and their guests stayed the weekend in the overwater cabins at Leaves and Fishes. These cabins, perched above serene lily-covered ponds, created the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed and beautiful getaway. Waking up with views over the water lilies set the tone for a wedding that was both calm and deeply romantic if I don't say so myself.

Braving the Heat

Did we mention it was hot? This wedding reached 37 degrees Celsius (98°F) with absolutely no wind, making it one of the hottest weddings we’ve ever captured on video. Despite the blazing sun, Whitney and Jarrod were smitten, playful, and completely focused on one another. Their energy and joy kept spirits high, even as cicadas buzzed all around.

Cicadas and Creative Videography

The cicadas at Leaves and Fishes were deafening and let’s just say they weren’t shy about letting their presence be known. Between their volume and their less-than-glamorous habit of “raining” from the trees, we had some creative challenges to work through. Thanks to Adobe, we were able to carefully remove the overwhelming cicada sounds from the vows while keeping the speeches crisp and clear.

It’s all part of the behind-the-scenes magic of wedding videography, ensuring the couple’s story comes through beautifully, no matter what nature throws our way.

Super8 and Timeless Portraits

As this was a micro wedding, we focused our video coverage on the ceremony and portraits. To add an extra nostalgic touch, we brought along our Super8 camera, weaving in film moments during the portraits. The mix of digital videography and grainy vintage film gave their story a timeless, romantic edge that felt perfectly in tune with the intimate setting.

A Day We’ll Never Forget

From the scorching heat to the cicada soundtrack, Whitney and Jarrod’s wedding at Leaves and Fishes is one we’ll always remember. Micro weddings often give us the opportunity to really focus on the essence of the day, and this one was pure joy to capture.

STYLE
This wedding was shot using both handheld rig and the gimbal. We also like to emulate film when shooting, to achieve this we shoot a flat S-LOG3 profile on a Sony A7siii to preserve highlights and shadows. All colour grading is done by us in FCPX and use Dehancer Pro for grain, additional blooming, halation on a Kodak Endura Glossy Paper print emulation. Along with using Phantom Luts.
