Описание: Mount Vernon is in Knox County, Ohio. Mount Vernon became a city in1880. The community was platted in 1805, and named after Mount Vernon, the estate owned by George Washington. The Civil War Monument that is the focal point of Mount Vernon's public square was designed by Henry B. Curtis. The corner stone was laid July 4, 1876 with the completed monument unveiled on July 4, 1877. Mount Vernon has so much great history and there is several QR codes in the park for walking tour maps. Many of the down town buildings date back to the mid-1800's. The Woodward Opera House is the oldest 19th century theater still standing with the first event at the theater in 1851. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The Knox County Courthouse is a historic building located in Mount Vernon, it was built in 1855. And is on the National Register of Historic places in 1973. The downtown has some great restaurants and unique shops.
