Queenstown Hill in the Māori language is called the Hill of Intense Sacredness. It must have been pretty special to them but I could not find anything that explained why it was so special. It seemed a bit sad to me and in some ways I felt a bit uncomfortable, an Englishman tramping ignorantly all over their hallowed space with several others. I felt that I should be treating it with the respect that I would - say for example in a church.
None the less it was a great walk with the great panoramic views that I had grown to expect from this stunning country. I think it was our last day but one, so the walk had a bit of an air of finality about it, a great way to finish our stay in Queenstown.
