"In this video, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. P. Nagabhushan Sir addressed an important academic leadership meeting held on 28th November 2024 with the Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments of Vignan’s University. The meeting focused on strengthening academic delivery, course relevance, and student skill development across multiple departments.
Vice Chancellor Sir began by appreciating the collective responsibility carried by Deans, Directors, and HoDs, stating that the real strength of a university lies not in infrastructure or rankings, but in how effectively academic leaders translate vision into classroom reality. He emphasised that leadership in academics is not about administration alone, but about ownership of student growth.
Sir spoke in depth about the diversity of departments and courses offered at the university and stressed the need for coherence, integration, and clarity in how these programs are designed and delivered. He highlighted that courses should not exist in isolation but must connect to real-world applications, industry needs, and societal challenges.
A major focus of his address was on skill development. He clearly stated that degrees without skills are incomplete and that universities must ensure students graduate as industry-ready professionals, not just exam-ready candidates. Learning, according to him, must move beyond content coverage to competence building, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Vice Chancellor Sir particularly emphasised the importance of strengthening mathematics education across the university. He candidly pointed out that mathematical foundations among students are currently weak and that this weakness directly impacts their performance in engineering, sciences, analytics, and emerging technologies. He urged departments to collectively take responsibility for improving mathematical thinking, logical reasoning, and quantitative skills, rather than treating mathematics as someone else’s subject.
In his characteristic style, Sir mentioned that mathematics is not about fear or formulas, but about thinking discipline. He reminded the academic leaders that strong mathematics builds strong engineers, scientists, and researchers, and without it, advanced learning becomes fragile.
He also spoke about effective teaching delivery, stating that faculty must continuously evolve their teaching methods to suit today’s learners. Teaching should be experiential, contextual, and reflective, enabling students to connect concepts with practice. He reinforced that faculty are not content deliverers but learning facilitators who shape students’ mindset and confidence.
Vice Chancellor Sir encouraged Deans and HoDs to proactively redesign curricula, assessments, and learning pathways aligned with NEP 2020, ensuring continuous learning, continuous assessment, and flexibility for students. He highlighted that internal coordination among departments is crucial to avoid academic silos and to offer interdisciplinary exposure.
Concluding his address, Sir reminded the academic leaders that universities are remembered not by the number of courses offered, but by the quality of graduates they produce. He urged everyone present to work together with honesty, discipline, and compassion to ensure that every student who enters Vignan’s University leaves with strong fundamentals, relevant skills, and the confidence to contribute meaningfully to industry and society.
This meeting reflects Vice Chancellor Sir’s deep commitment to academic excellence, skill-based education, and holistic student development.
