"This video presents the insightful and thought-provoking address delivered by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. P. Nagabhushan Sir during the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) & Accreditation program held from 21st to 25th October 2024 at Vignan’s University.
At the outset, Sir warmly welcomed and acknowledged the presence of the esteemed subject experts from NITTR Chandigarh, appreciating their contribution to strengthening academic systems and guiding institutions toward meaningful accreditation practices.
In his characteristic reflective style, Prof. Nagabhushan Sir clearly stated that he does not believe in “preparing” for accreditation. According to him, accreditation should happen automatically when the institution consistently follows the right academic processes. He emphasised that accreditation is not an event, not a checklist, and not a last-minute activity, but rather the natural outcome of disciplined academic culture, quality teaching, and ethical practices.
He spoke extensively about Outcome-Based Education, highlighting that education must be evaluated not by syllabus coverage or examinations alone, but by what a student finally becomes. He stressed that outcomes are not limited to:
Marks or ranks
NAAC or NIRF numbers
Instead, true outcomes include:
A student’s ability to think independently
Their problem-solving mindset
Their ethical grounding and societal responsibility
Their readiness for life, career, and leadership
Sir connected OBE with the AAA framework (Academy Assessment and Award), reiterating that AAA is an assessment, not an examination. He explained that assessment is meant to improve quality, not to create fear or competition among faculty. According to him, AAA and accreditation mechanisms should help faculty reflect, refine, and evolve in their teaching and mentoring roles.
He also highlighted that different students have different outcomes, and education must respect this diversity. Not every student needs to follow the same path, but every student must leave the university with clarity, confidence, and competence.
In his deep philosophical tone, Sir reminded the faculty that:
Quality cannot be documented; it must be lived daily
Accreditation agencies only validate what already exists
If systems are honest, accreditation becomes a by-product, not a target
He urged faculty members to move away from mechanical compliance and instead focus on meaningful academic practices, where teaching, learning, mentoring, and evaluation naturally align with desired outcomes.
The speech strongly reflected Prof. Nagabhushan Sir’s belief that education is a continuous practice, not a seasonal preparation, and that institutions grow only when discipline coexists with compassion and responsibility.
This address served as both guidance and a reminder that Outcome-Based Education is not about formats or files, but about transforming students into capable, responsible, and value-driven individuals.
