Nelliyampathy- Part 03
Your Nelliyampathy trip, will not be completed without visiting Pothundi Dam and Garden.
There are around 100 steps to reach at the top of the Pothundi Dam. You can see the beauty of Western Ghats in between.
When you reach at the top of the Pothundi Dam, You can see the spectacular view of the reservoir along with Western Ghats background. You can also watch the beauty of Nelliyampathy hills from there. This spot is a popular film shooting location in South India.
Pothundi Dam is an irrigation dam, near Pothundi village in Palakkad. Constructed in the 19th century, by the British, by using a mixture of jaggery, and quick lime, instead of the usual concrete. it is considered as one of the oldest dams in India. This dam is generally used for irrigation purpose, and also for drinking water supply, for Nemmara and surrounding areas. There is a beautiful garden at the base of the Pothundi Dam. Tourism Department recently been implemented adventure tourism, at Pothundi.
