Runner up at Excellence 2016 in the 'Coproduction and involvement excellence' category.
With a strong focus on engagement, communication and friendship, seven volunteers have been recruited to work alongside staff in Halifax’s early intervention in psychosis (Insight) team to deliver daily activity and teaching sessions.
Volunteers are invited to attend training opportunities alongside staff to promote self-development, experience the benefits of getting involved in activities, and boost employability skills. It also gives volunteers, staff, service users and carers the opportunity to get together socially. Through involving volunteers, the service has been able to develop what they have to offer, provide extra activities and improve the skills of the workforce.
"Volunteering has given me an opportunity to learn new things, get involved and share experiences. It is good for the people attending our groups, it keeps the mind busy, and we work with people who are 'hard to reach'. I feel great giving something back". Kelly Colclough, volunteer.
