How to make Hungarian non plus ultra cookies. Literally meaning "the highest point" or acme. One of the many reasons I love baking is the culinary legacy behind these recipes: why is there a Hungarian cookie with a Latin name? I wish I knew the history behind this name. And there is a Filipino cake named "Sans Rival" which obviously means without rival. I am sure there are other pastries with similar superlative names. Anyway, this Hungarian cookie are two cookies actually. Each with a meringue hat and a pate sablee base sandwiched with jam, apricot lekvar being popular.
