Описание: These clips, maddeningly truncated and assembled for news like so much Italian film from the mid-20th century, are precious living documents of the look and feel of operatic performances from a time when such footage was quite rare. Snippets of recitatives, arias, ensembles, and choruses provide a glimpse of great artists operating before the end of WWII and before the so-called revival of bel canto and the explosion of media and studio marketing that came 10-15 years later, with Callas, Sutherland, etc. During this earlier era, the go-to sopranos for these kinds of musically challenging roles were Gabriella Gatti and Maria Pedrini—the two of whom comprise one of Lauri-Volpi's voci parallele.
