Deer Creek : A Paddler's Paradise? A Wild Start to the Day | My Review

Описание: It's a warm mid-August Saturday in 2022 when I decided to take a drive due south to Deer Creek Conservation Area located between Langton and Long Point, Ontario. Now I was here when I was a kid, maybe 12 or so years old, which was around 36 years ago at the time of recording this video. That's a long time and my recollection of this area was pretty fuzzy at best.

I've read several different comments in forums and Facebook groups where paddlers have raved about this conservation area. Many have claimed this to be a "Paddler's Paradise". This isn't the French River or Georgian Bay, but rather a reservoir in the middle of farmland. I had to take a look for myself. Of course I drove past the park entrance initially since I thought it was on the opposite side of the road (I didn't drive here when I was 12). The check in process was pretty straightforward with a less than enthusiastic employee. As I made my way to the boat ramp area, I could see that this was a mess. Pick-up trucks going down the ramp to get their boats, other trucks coming up the hill, others waiting. It was a Saturday afternoon and all the fishermen/women/people were departing for the day. A couple guys became enraged at each other as their patience for waiting wore thin. F bombs began to fly. I decided to just park my car at the top of the hill and carry my Delta kayak to the dock. No sense in getting involved in the ensuing chaos.

This wasn't the start I was hoping for. A peaceful and quiet experience is what I wanted, but that would have to wait until I got into the water and far away from the dock. I didn't want what I witnessed at the boat ramp to tarnish my view of Deer Creek, however I think it surely set the tone for the afternoon. Grown adults behaving like ignorant little children can have that affect.
