Garlic - Aside from the smell, putting garlic between the toes can cause chemical burns to the skin. As the main active ingredient in garlic is diallyl disulfide, it is likely to cause more problems such as secondary contact dermatitis.

Acid-based creams, drops and lacquers - The layer of flesh between the bone and skin of the toe can be less than 2-3mm thick. Applying acid to this area often leads to a break-down of tissue, exposing the bone as the acid burns away everything in its path. Many toe amputations have been caused by the incorrect self-use of acid and poor wound management strategies. This is especially true with high-risk conditions involving diabetes and poor blood flow to the legs.

The webspace between toes is often sweaty. Adding cream or emollient to this region can only worsen the problem.
