In 1895, the folk initiative was born in our state by Frances Goodrich. That initiative grew when she established the Southern Highland Craft guild in 1930, representing the 293 counties that border the southern Appalachain mountains. Now known as The Folk Art Center in Asheville, it is the oldest craft shop in the U.S. The center brings people together over a love for fine, handmade, crafted art.
