Ministers have been warned not to publish their own messages with Lord Mandelson after Wes Streeting shared some of his texts. The Cabinet Office said private messages may be covered by Parliament’s order to release documents about Mandelson’s appointment and time as US ambassador.
Police are investigating claims Mandelson shared sensitive government information with Jeffrey Epstein, and the Met has warned releases must not undermine the investigation. Streeting says he published his messages because he was facing “smear and innuendo”, while Downing Street says it is being guided by the police on what can be disclosed.
