In this week’s interview, I had the pleasure of talking with Edward Randell, Jamie Wright, and Oliver Griffiths, with a special appearance by Federica Basile, current and former members of the Swingles — an a cappella institution that’s been redefining vocal harmony for over sixty years.
This was a special episode because it marked the first time I invited guests as a direct result of a listener request. Show follower Jennifer Milne Tallagnon suggested I feature the Swingles after noticing their stunning performance of “Life on Mars?” and their delightful connection to The West Wing podcast — and I invited her on to join the conversation and ask some questions herself.
Together we talked about the group’s remarkable history, their inventive arrangement of Bowie’s “Life on Mars?,” how they kept singing and creating during the pandemic, and what Bowie still means to artists in London today. It’s a moving and joyful conversation about music, resilience, and connection.
