In this interview, I speak with Professor Lawrence Krauss, one of the world’s most recognized physicists and the author of, among other works, “A Universe from Nothing,” “The Physics of Star Trek” and editor of “The War On Science.” We talk about nothing—literally. Krauss explains how physics defines “nothing” not as emptiness but as a bubbling quantum field from which particles and even entire universes can emerge. It’s a fascinating conversation about science, philosophy, and the origins of existence.
I invited him on my Bowie show because “nothing” is one of the most ubiquitous words in Bowie’s lyrics—more than “space,” more than “stars,” and certainly more than “love.” It’s a theme that has come up again and again on my blog and in past interviews with philosophers, novelists, and musicians. In exploring what “nothing” means from a scientific perspective, Krauss sheds new light on one of the deepest undercurrents in Bowie’s art and in human understanding itself
