Lesson #1: Protein Timing 🍗
Do you really need protein immediately after your workout?
While it is ideal to get protein in post-workout, in the grand scheme of things it’s not the most important factor. What matters most is that you’re consistently hitting your daily protein goal.
For most people, a good target is 0.8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. As long as you’re doing that, the exact timing isn’t a huge deal.
🚨 One important exception:
If you train late at night and then go straight to bed without eating for 8–10 hours, you definitely want to get some protein in—even just a protein shake—even if you already hit your protein goal earlier that day. This helps protect muscle while you sleep.
Lesson #2: Restaurant Calories Are Estimates ⚖️
While it’s great that restaurants now provide nutrition facts, you have to remember they are still estimates, not exact numbers.
Panda Express is especially tricky because it’s a serve-style restaurant. One day the employee might be generous, and another day you might get the bare minimum. That means your calories can vary a lot from visit to visit.
In this video, I also show how Google and different calorie-tracking sites all list different calorie numbers for the same Panda Express serving. This proves that when you eat out, you’re already working with estimates.
