Bharat was the eldest son, Lord Rishabhadeva entrusted him with the throne and gave Bahubali a large kingdom. Now, King Bharat wanted to become the ruler of all six continents, so he prepared to wage war against Bahubali to seize his kingdom. To demonstrate his strength, Bahubali also accepted the challenge of war. Both brothers were very powerful. On one side was Bharat, the Chakravarti (emperor), a king who could not be defeated and who would conquer all the kingdoms of the earth. On the other side was Bahubali, whose arms were so strong that no one could stand against him. If he struck someone on the head with his hand, that person would die instantly. Now, if these two mighty warriors were to fight, it would be such a massive war that it would devastate the entire earth. Therefore, the ministers pleaded with them to engage in a physical combat instead, so that the armies would be spared. Physical combat meant eye wrestling, water wrestling and Physical wrestling. Whoever won would receive the Chakravarti's kingdom. Both brothers accepted the ministers' plea.

The battle began. Different wrestling techniques were employed! In every round, Bahubali kept winning, and King Bharat kept losing. Finally, in a fit of rage, Emperor Bharat gathered all his strength and attacked Bahubali with his chakra. However, the chakra, bound by the sanctity of blood relations, did not harm Bahubali. Instead, it circled him and fell to the ground. Emperor Bharat's anger subsided, and he was filled with remorse. Witnessing all this, Bahubali got detachment from worldly life and went to the forest to perform penance.
