Dundee United 1-3 Rangers Match Report Transcript:
It was an action-packed day here at Tannadice, Rangers running out 3-1 winners. They went behind in the first half to Sam Dalby, Mohammed Diomande equalized, Robin Propper gave them the lead in the second half, and Cyriel Dessers confirmed the victory. There was a Rangers penalty shout in the mix there that was waved away by Nick Walsh. Nicolas Raskin almost scored an own-goal equalizer, but the ball came back off the post.
We’ve spoken to Rangers manager Philippe Clement. The biggest talking point, of course, the sending off for Mohammed Diomande right in the 95th minute of the game. Nick Walsh flashed the red card for an altercation; he went to the monitor and stuck with his on-field decision. Rangers manager Philippe Clement says Rangers will be appealing the card:
“Oh, the red card—okay, in the moment it happened, I didn’t see what happened, so I looked back after the game. I totally don’t understand the red card. I think the VAR also didn’t understand the red card, otherwise they don’t ask the referee to come to watch the screen. So Diomande gets pushed away, so there’s violent conduct towards him in the push, and he falls back, and he has a small reaction with his hands, not touching anybody. If you see that back, I think it’s clear the maximum is for the two players a yellow card. I see so many things happening in Scottish football every week—if this is a red card, then in every game there should be three or four red cards.”
Well, red card appeal or not, Rangers have earned their first away victory in six weeks. The last time they won on the road was against Ross County back in December. It takes them to within 10 points of Celtic, although Celtic will have that game in hand to play—their match against Dundee was called off yesterday due to storm damage at Celtic Park.
For Dundee United, they remain in third despite today’s defeat to Rangers. They’re two points ahead of fourth-place Aberdeen. We will be bringing you all of the full post-match reaction from Philippe Clement and Jim Goodwin on YouTube—look out for that. But it ended here today: Dundee United 1, Rangers 3.
