James Frederic "Jim" Doehring (born January 27, 1962) is a former American shot putter best known for winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games.
Sports Career:
Doehring had a career marked by both great successes and significant setbacks:
Olympic Achievements: He competed twice in the Summer Olympics. In 1988 (Seoul), he finished 11th. His greatest success came in 1992 (Barcelona), where he won the silver medal with a throw of 20.96 meters.
World Championships: In 1993, he also won silver at the World Indoor Championships in Toronto.
Personal Record: His best distance ever is 21.60 meters, achieved in 1992.
Setbacks and Controversy: In 1981, he survived a serious motorcycle accident that nearly cost him the use of his legs. Later, in 1990, he was suspended for testing positive for steroids. However, he was reinstated in March 1992 due to procedural errors in the test, allowing him to participate in the Barcelona Games.
Business Career: After his athletic career, Doehring entered the business world, specifically in the beverage industry.
Wine Industry: He worked for many years in management positions for renowned wineries such as Jordan Winery and Far Niente.
Entrepreneurship: He is the founder and president of Source Code Beverage, a company known for its "Backpack Wine" brand (canned wine).
Jim Doehring currently lives in the Chicago area with his wife and twin sons.
