GUNDOG TRAINING Skye: Stop Whistle Stage 2

Описание: Here we are using a tennis ball to aid the action of the dog going into an automatic stop.
Stage 1: Have your dog sitting in front of you and hold a tennis ball in the palm of your hand, ball facing upwards.
Stage 2: Throw the ball over your dog's head (ensure its high enough so that your dog can not catch it in his mouth). It is vital that you don't do it too fast, otherwise the dog will already be off before it has gone into the correct position. It must be an underarm throw allowing the dog to see the ball clearly.
Stage 3: Repeat this exercise only once or twice.
Stage 4: This time go to throw the ball over the dog's head, but pause when your hand reaches the top of the upward throw. Pause, rotate your wrist and then throw over the dogs head. (They can run in at this stage as it is important that they enjoy the exercise.)
Stage 5: Now you can pair the dog pausing in front of you with the Stop Whistle. Hold them there for a couple of seconds, if they are not in a sit, you can ask them to sit. Say 'good' then release the ball.
Stage 6: Repeat and always make sure you reinforce with 'good' when the dog has stopped and has its bottom on the ground.
