You brought a lawsuit against your careless doctor.
You suffered terrible injuries because of his negligence.
Your doctor denies all of your allegations.
During your lawsuit, you will be questioned by the attorney who represents the doctor you sued. This will be done in your attorney's office. Specifically, in his conference room. This question and answer session is known as a deposition or an examination before trial.
There's no judge there.
There's no jury there.
Just you, your lawyer, the defense lawyer and a court stenographer to record all of the questions you're asked and all of your answers.
Some injured patients who sue their doctor think that this question and answer session is the perfect time to tell the opposing lawyer EVERYTHING that happened. They think that this is the time to get verbal diarrhea. They believe that the more information the opposing attorney has about what happened to you will be more favorable to you and your case.
Actually, that's not true.
The more information you provide, the longer you'll be questioned.
You could be there for days when instead, you should have only been there for half a day.
If you provide the attorney with lots of useless information having nothing to do with the key claims in your case, it's not going to be helpful either to you or to him.
Instead, you must LISTEN to the question being asked and answer JUST THAT QUESTION. You don't want to start telling stories that are not on point and have nothing to do with that exact question.
