The plan was ambitious: A 1,000km flight in January, starting before sunrise to beat the day. It felt possible—just the day prior, I managed a decent out-and-return to Bad Gastein with a 110kph average speed in the wave. A month prior, we flew over 900km in the north wind wave.
So, my plans for this specific day were clear: flying 1000km! Turns out, I made a huge mistake by releasing from tow too early. This is the story of how I went from "Hero" to "Zero"—waking up at 4 AM only to find myself landing in a short alpine field just one hour after takeoff.
