The Happy Skateboarder 80’s Style Deck- How to apply griptape to a skateboard in the description⬇️

What you need:
•Skateboard
•Griptape
•Sharp Stanley Knife
•Rounded file (not needed, but easier. If you don’t have a file use a screw driver edge, or even a skateboard truck)
•Kebab Skewer (a bolt or screwdriver can do the job as well)

How to:
1) Place the griptape on top of the board, making sure it will cover the entire length of the board.
(In the video you’ll see I didn’t really make sure & just after I started I had to remove it & re-aline the griptape)
2) Seperate the griptape from its backing at one end & firmly stick it to one end of the board. Gradually pull the backing off, pulling towards the other end of the board, while firmly pushing the griptape down onto the board as it seperate from the backing. Watch for air bubbles, lift & reapply if any appear. If your pulling toward the other end of the board as you go creases shouldn’t appear, if they do you have change direction that you are pulling the griptape in. If this happens, lift pull the crease apart & reapply.
3) Run the file (screwdriver or truck) around the edge of the board. This sticks the edges down tight as well as removing some of the ‘sandiness’ from the edges making it easier to cut. (I’ve seen people grip a deck at a park with out a Stanley knife by just running a truck around the board over & over till it wears through griptape completely)
4) Keeping a steady hand run the Stanley knife around he edge of the board. Keep a close hand to the griptape, aka keeping the knife smaller then a 45° angle from the top of the board. This will stop there being any over hanging griptape & should follow the edge you have filed into the griptape.
5) Useing some of the off-cut griptape sand around the edge of the griptape. Some people like to sand lightly over the entire board to ‘soften’ the griptape.
6) Poke the skewer (bolt or screwdriver) through the underside of the deck enough to mark where the holes are (this is why I prefer a skewer as it pokes holes through easy). Then poke through the makings with the Stanley knife, I just make an X in the griptape. That’s enough to poke your bolts through.
7) Hopefully you have a set of trucks off your old deck & can simply bolt them onto the new deck. If not check out my other videos, I will be adding a video of how to completely build a deck soon.

Step 8) Go skate!
