This video was filmed during a Max Fire Training Acquired Structure Burn & Learn session hosted by the Fosterburg Fire Department in Illinois. It focuses on what firefighters can learn from Mixed Gain Mode thermal imaging during live fire conditions.
Watch how Mixed Gain Mode allows firefighters to see critical detail in both high- and low-heat areas at the same time, without freezing, switching modes, or losing situational awareness. This capability helps crews better interpret fire behavior, heat movement, and developing hazards in real time.
The video highlights how thermal imaging reveals gray convection currents, heat movement, and hidden conditions that are often missed during interior operations. Seeing these indicators helps firefighters make better decisions during size-up, attack, and overhaul.
This footage demonstrates use of the Seek AttackPRO VRS thermal imaging camera, including Survey Mode and early colorization that support faster recognition of high-heat conditions. Training like this allows firefighters to put reps in under controlled conditions and better understand what the fire is doing before conditions deteriorate.
Special thanks to the Fosterburg Fire Department and participating mutual aid departments for their commitment to realistic training.
