This video is filmed by Pastor Keith Menter who invited us to the city church. Keith Menter filmed his meeting with us and our bus "Buller" and when we saw it we agreed that is was a perfect little extra for our channel 😊.
There is a Danish town in Iowa called Elk Horn. When we first came here I thought, "it is a tourist stunt, a money machine", but we were wonderfully welcomed and when we visited the citizens of the city we found that they were very proud of their Danish origin. We stayed overnight and woke up to the most delicious freshly baked "Danish rye bread". But much more about all that in our own video coming later...
The city was founded by the Danish emigrant Christian Jensen and his wife Marie, they came from the Danish island Fyn in 1868. The course was set towards Nebraska where you could get cheap land. But Christian and Marie got lost in the fog and drove in a circle and the next day they decided to stay right where they were. Today, it is still the Danish surnames that make a mark on the city and many can trace the genus back to the Danish roots.
