The rise of EVs and the ZEV mandate are putting pressure on the traditional fuel network.

Particularly at risk are rural independent petrol stations – around 64% of rural forecourts are privately owned, without the backing of large companies. These smaller sites will likely close first as fuel demand drops, especially as the ZEV mandate intensifies and new petrol/diesel car sales phase out.

In remote rural areas– riders could lose their nearest fuel stop entirely. That means longer detours, limited mobility, and real barriers to enjoying two-wheeled freedom. For many in the countryside, this could spell the end of convenient, reliable refuelling.
