Civil society organisations pushing back against the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project yesterday suffered a major setback after the Appellate Division of the East African Court of Justice threw out their appeal, ruling that it was filed beyond the legally required 60-day window. The decision—now final—has left affected communities in Uganda and Tanzania waiting anxiously, as the groups that took their concerns to court say they will first consult families living along the pipeline route before deciding how to proceed.
