Lemon Loaf - Budget Friendly!

Lemon bread a delicious tea bread especially tasty for the lemon lover. Serve sliced like bread either buttered or plain. Delicious with tea or coffee or a glass of cold milk. Yummy! Recipe follows:
Lemon Loaf (Glazed)
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
Bake 65 to 70 minutes
greased 9 inch x 5 inch x 3 inch (23 cm x 13 cm x 7.6 cm) loaf pan
Blend or sift together in a small mixing bowl
1 1/2 cups (230 gm) all purpose flour (Canadian - strong or bread flour USA or UK)
1 teaspoon (5 ml) baking powder
1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) salt
Stir in
1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped walnuts or pecans - OPTIONAL
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
In a separate large mixing bowl
Cream
1/2 cup (125 ml) butter
Beat in
1 cup (250 ml) granulated sugar (caster sugar UK)
Blend in, beating until light and fluffy
2 eggs
Add blended dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with
1/2 cup (125 ml) milk - I use 3.25 % butter fat milk
Make 3 dry and 2 liquid additions, combining lightly after each.
Turn into prepared pan.
Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 65 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean.
Cool 5 minutes, then drizzle over top a mixture of
1/4 cup (60 ml) granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons (30 ml) lemon juice
Cool, then remove from pan.
