Waffle’s sad. He’s not allowed to go on the Brooklyn-Bells’ camping trip. Gramps is going to look after him while they’re away and Evie gives one of her snuggly toys, PegHeart, to Waffle so he can cuddle it when he misses her. Evie spots a removal van. Connie and Ruby are moving in to Maple Close with their dog, Jelly. When Jelly picks up PegHeart and jumps into the removal van, Waffle chases. He wants PegHeart back, but Simon and Connie remove the dogs from the van and Waffle is ushered indoors, to stay out of everyone’s way. Waffle feels sorry for himself. A cuddle from PegHeart might help him feel better but where is Pegheart? Waffle remembers. PegHeart must be in the back of the van! Waffle slips out of the front door, unnoticed, to look for it. Jess arrives home with Gramps and the Brooklyn-Bells realise Waffle is missing. While they look for him, Waffle finds Pegheart in the van. But when Waffle turns to leave, the van door slides shut, the engine starts and Waffle and PegHeart are stuck inside. Evie deduces Waffle’s whereabouts and Jess and Evie borrow Gramps’ car to pursue the removal van to its depot, but when they arrive, the van driver tells them that when she opened the van, Waffle ran away. Gramps, Doug and Simon arrive – they’ll all search for Waffle together. At dusk, the forlorn Brooklyn-Bells return home. They haven’t found Waffle. But as they pull onto the drive, they see Waffle sitting on their doorstep – he’s made it all the way home by himself! Later at the campsite, the Brooklyn-Bells AND Waffle enjoy a good singsong around the fire. // Armed with flowers and a card, the Brooklyn-Bells prepare to serenade Mrs Hobbs on her doorstep. If they show her they like having her as a neighbour, maybe she’ll be persuaded not to move away from Maple Close with her cat, George - Waffle’s friend. Mrs Hobbs opens the door on a pogo stick and announces that George has fleas. She can’t step on the carpet because it’s infested. Mrs Hobbs reveals that once, she had a dog who caught fleas. The Brooklyn-Bells are stunned - Mrs Hobbs the dog-phobic-cat-lover used to own a dog?! They want to know more but Mrs Hobbs can’t stop to chat because a man’s coming to view her house and she needs to de-flea it first. The Brooklyn-Bells offer to help. Vet Jess treats George’s fleas and Simon vacuums the carpets. In exchange, Mrs Hobbs shares her story about moving into Maple Close with her husband, Mr Hobbs, and their loveable terrier, Paul. Mrs Hobbs recalls a happy time, until Mr Hobbs left on a world travelling adventure, taking Paul with him. Mrs Hobbs never heard from them again. Now do the Brooklyn-Bells understand why Mrs Hobbs hates dogs? Paul chose to go with Mr Hobbs and leave Mrs Hobbs all alone. Mrs Hobbs’ potential house buyer arrives. He asks about the neighbours. Mrs Hobbs launches into a less than charming description of the Brooklyn-Bells until she spots the card they gave her and reads the caring words written inside. Moved by the Brooklyn-Bells’ affection for her, Mrs Hobbs concludes that Jess, Simon, Evie and Doug are, in fact, the best neighbours she could hope for. She won’t be selling her house after all!
